This free 2027 goal setting template is a 4-page PDF that takes you from "I'd like to…" to a plan you can start this week. Write down your goals for 2027, turn each one into an action plan with quarterly milestones, break the year into monthly actions, and rewrite your new year resolutions as small first steps. You get both US Letter and A4.

Every page is shown above, so you can check the layout before you print. Enter your email in the form and we send you both PDF files.

What's inside the 2027 goal setting template

  • Page 1: My 2027 goals. A line for 2027 in one sentence ("By December 31, 2027, I want to be able to say…"), then five goals, each with why it matters, a life area, a done-by date and a first step.
  • Page 2: Goal action plan. One page per goal: your goal, why it matters, how you'll know you've done it, one milestone per quarter (Q1 to Q4), a first steps checklist, an "if it gets hard" plan and a dotted area for notes and who can help. Print one copy for each goal.
  • Page 3: Monthly action plan 2027. Twelve boxes from January to December 2027, each with checkbox lines for the small actions that move a goal forward that month.
  • Page 4: New year resolutions 2027. A table with three columns: "instead of…", "I will…" and "first small step", plus boxes for how you'll celebrate and your check-in dates.

How to use the goal setting template

  1. Write the one-sentence version of your year first. It keeps the list short. If a goal doesn't fit that sentence, it can probably wait until 2028.
  2. Pick three to five goals. Page 1 has room for five, but you don't have to fill every row.
  3. Make an action plan for each goal. Be specific about how you'll know it's done: "run a 5K in under 35 minutes" is easier to plan for than "get fit".
  4. Set one milestone per quarter. Four checkpoints are easier to keep track of than one big deadline in December.
  5. Plan the first month in detail, the rest lightly. Fill January on page 3, then add next month's actions at the end of each month.
  6. Write down what might get in the way. Then write what you'll do when it happens. It's much easier to follow a plan you made on a calm day.

Goal setting ideas for 2027

If you're not sure where to start, look at the life areas on page 1 and pick the one you think about most often. A few examples of goals written so you can actually plan them:

  • Health: walk 30 minutes, four days a week, by the end of March.
  • Money: save $1,000 for an emergency fund by June 30.
  • Learning: finish one online course in Spanish by September.
  • Home: clear out one room a month from January to April.
  • People: have dinner with a friend once a month.
  • Creativity: fill one sketchbook in 2027.

Each one has a number and a date, so it fits straight into the milestones on page 2.

New year resolutions that last longer than January

A resolution like "stop scrolling at night" tells you what not to do. Page 4 asks you to write what you'll do instead ("read for 15 minutes before bed") and the smallest possible first step ("put a book on my pillow tonight"). Then pick a few check-in dates on the calendar, and decide how you'll celebrate when you get there.

From yearly goals to a weekly plan

Goals get done in ordinary weeks. Once you know this month's actions, the next step is putting them on specific days next to your appointments.

If you'd rather not redraw a weekly spread every Sunday, Carnet is a digital bullet journal for your week. It runs in your browser, with nothing to install, and you can open a sample week on the Carnet journal page without creating an account. If you keep using it, there's a 7-day trial, then it's $10 a month. Keep your 2027 goals on paper and plan each week in Carnet.

FAQ

Is this 2027 goal setting template free?

Yes. The PDF is free for personal use. Enter your email in the form on this page and we send you the US Letter and A4 files. You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time.

How many goals should I set for 2027?

The template has room for five, but three is a good number to start with. Fewer goals leave more time and attention for each one.

What's the difference between a goal and a resolution?

A resolution is usually a habit you want to change ("eat less sugar"). A goal has a finish line and a date ("cook dinner at home four nights a week by March"). The template has a page for each, so you can turn resolutions into goals.

Can I print the action plan more than once?

Yes. Page 2 is meant to be printed once per goal. Print as many copies as you need.

What paper size should I print it on?

In the US and Canada, print the US Letter file (8.5 x 11 in). Almost everywhere else, use the A4 file. Choose "actual size" or "100%" in your printer settings.

Is there a digital version?

No, this template is a printable PDF only. Carnet, our digital bullet journal, is for planning your week in the browser; it isn't a digital copy of this template.
